1/200 HMS Hood - Pom-Pom and Missile Launcher mount

For those viewing this for the first time, for nearly a year now I've been slowly plugging away at a 1/200 scale HMS Hood model, made by Hachette Partworks.

For those who don't know what a partwork is, it's where you receive an issue once a week, containing a magazine and parts to build your model. Each week has three pages of instructions to follow, most of the time these instructions cover the parts you received that week.

Overall the model will be completed in 140 issues, so it'll take 140 weeks if you're able to complete each issue week by week.

I get my issues sent to me from a guy in the UK, so I'm generally behind the other people I know that are building the same model. But I'm still keeping up to the best of my ability.

I have a very, very detailed build thread on the partwork model forums that can be found here:

http://www.partworkmodels.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=94&t=2324

Since coming home from holidays, I started working on the Pom-Poms and the singular missile launcher mount that sits on top of turret 4's range finder.

As shown here, the parts are a mix of injected plastic, and photo-etched brass. In the case of the barrels, I bought a turned brass barrel replacement kit from a supplier in Poland, who has made barrels for their card model of the Hood in the same scale.

While I won't go into detail as to how I built the parts on the blog, feel free to check out the forum for detailed notes on building. For here, I'll just show some wip images and the completed part for the issue.

The kit comes with plastic molded barrels, but as shown I've removed them and replaced them with the aforementioned brass barrels.

And as you can see, some of these parts are quite small.

The missile launcher mount was a simple affair, two ammo boxes, some support rails, and a couple of ladders.

For a more detailed viewing of the assembly of the pom-poms, feel free to check out my forum post over at the Partwork Model Forums. I intend to finish the rest of the guns over the next week.
