Kotobukiya 1/100 Metal Gear Rex - open box

So I've been busy with work and whatnot over the past week, but I managed to find some time to get some things sorted with the Hood, as well as some other hobby projects.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago on ShinTokyo's facebook page that they had the new 1/100 Metal Gear Rex from Kotobukiya in stock. When pre-orders when up initially on HLJ I was pretty tempted, but I decided against purchasing as I didn't want to buy any new kits at this point.

Today I caved and went down to ShinTokyo and bought it over the counter. For $100 AUD ($20 more than the original list price.. seen here) I felt it was more than worth it.

Opening the box, I find bagged sprues and a nice manual. I'm happy with the amount of parts shown, as this appears to to be quite a nice kit when assembled.

I removed all the sprues from the bags and did an initial inspection of the parts. This is typical Kotobukiya molding, and highly detailed. There are in total 22 sprues, 14 standard plastic sprues, one gold plated plastic sprue, 3 ABS sprues, and two polycap sprues. Also included is 4 small figures, with Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, and two versions of Grey Fox as the cyborg ninja from Metal Gear Solid.

The grey sprues make up the majority of the kit. These are pieces that form main structural parts such as the thighs, torso, etc. They're also very detailed.

The darker grey sprues are mostly internal and small detail pieces.

The plated pieces and the polycaps are standard affair for those that are used to full action model kits.

The base is a really nice large, singular piece. It appears also that it can lock in place with other Kotobukiya chain bases.

Finally the figures are very well detailed for 1/100 pieces.

The instructions are very nice. Opening up the first page we're greeted with some line art and pictures of a finished model, followed by some pictures of the kit in action

The instructions are a standard japanese action figure model kit affair, with detailed pictures and a summary at the beginning of each section stating what sprues you need to complete the section.

The painting guide is detailed, with paints listed from Gunze Sangyo Mr Hobby Color acrylics and Mr Color lacquers.

Finally we have a two page spread showing all the camouflage markings.

Overall I'm pretty happy with this kit, and fairly keen to start assembly already. I don't know when I'll get around to painting it, but for the meantime it'll look great in my cabinet until I do paint her!

Look forward to some assembly pictures over the next couple of days. :)
